I sewed these curtains by hand with black thread. We had been looking for curtains for me and none stood out so we decided to go look at the fabric. These curtains are for my closet but you could do this for anywhere you could put a curtain on a rod. :) All I did was fold the end over so it would make a loop big enough for my curtain rod and sewed it all the way across. I used pins to keep it all in place while I worked. This would be sooo quick if you have a machine but at the time I didn't. It didn't take long I finished them both within a few days. I didn't do to much at a time because I'm not used to hand sewing and didn't want to get fatigued or sore and end up giving up. If I had a machine I probably would have folded the edges over and sewed them because it would give it a nicer more finished look but mine are just free and it looks fine. You'd only notice if you went up and examined it. I think the fabric had a bit of white on the edge so I made sure to remove that. If you have a pattern like mine you need to make sure your design is facing the direction you want before you start sewing! Double check especially if you're going to hand sew. Imagine getting to the end only to realize it was upside down. I nearly did this myself, but caught it before I started. :P
I like to put buttons and pins on my curtains. You can see them below. I love having my own custom curtains because it makes my room more "me". You could make all kinds of crazy, colorful, unique curtains sewing pieces together. I would love to try making some more elaborate ones in the future! I made 1 tie back as well, but never finished the 2nd. I didn't attach it to the wall but when I opened the curtain and put it on it just kind of stayed to the side so you can do that too. Mine was just a rectangle piece of matching fabric with the edges sewn folded over so they look more finished with a button and hole.
If you've ever made curtains I would love to hear about it and if you have any tips on curtain making feel free to comment! I just wanted to share this to show just how easy making your own curtains can be!
