Pantyhose hair ties are more hair friendly than most regular hair ties. These will cause less friction on your hair. I made them to help with the damage I get on my ends from securing my braids.
If you have old pantyhose with holes, etc, then this DIY project is great for you!
Now I bought new pantyhose because I never really wear pantyhose. I just picked something close to my hair color but of course you can use any color. You could even use colored tights for some vibrant colors.
Cut a little slit in the pantyhose so you can put your scissors in it to cut the circle. This 'tutorial' is old and now I'm thinking you can probably just start at the toes. It's really up to you. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to start at the thigh when I took these pictures about 2 years ago.
I cut a few different widths. You'll find what works best for your hair with a little experimenting. I like thinner ones for the ends of braids and thicker ones for ponytails. However it's quite slippery so the ponytails get loose quickly. With my hair being so long it's heavier than normal so I that may be part of my issue. I don't generally wear ponytails anyways.
Below you can see how they roll up a bit. So plan for that when you're cutting them. I would say start with smaller widths and work up until you get what you like.
Hope you all found this helpful! Now instead of throwing out your pantyhose when it gets a run in it you can just make some hair friendly hair ties!
